Man found dead in Ctg hotel

Police recovered the dead body of a upazila vice-chairman’s husband from a residential hotel in Cinema Palace area at Laldighi in the port city Chittagong on Wednesday afternoon. The deceased was identified as Bhadra Chakma, 65, husband of Gopadebi Chakma, vice-chairman of Dighinala upazila in Khagrachhari, hailing from Babupara village in the same upazila. Being informed, police recovered the body from a room of Hotel Al Saleh besides KC De road in the afternoon, said Jasim Uddin, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station. Bhadra had been staying in the hotel for three days, the OC added.

3 auto-rickshaw garages gutted   

Three CNG-run auto-rickshaw garages and one shanty were gutted in a fire that broke out in the garage at North Goran in capital’s Khilgaon area early Thursday. The fire originated at a garage around 12:45am and soon engulfed adjacent garages and shanty. On information, three units of fire fighters rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control after one hour of frantic efforts, said inspector Ataur Rahman of Fire Service and Civil Defense headquarters. The estimated losses caused by the fire are about Tk 40 lakh, the fire official said, adding that fire fighters recovered valuables worth about Tk 60 lakh.

Spinning mill catches fire

A fire broke out at a cotton godown of a spinning mill at Bagher Bazar in Gazipur on Thursday. AktaruzzamanLiton, deputy assistant director of Gazipur Fire Service, said the fire broke out at the godown of the spinning mill named Mosharraf Composite Textile Ltd around 3am and spread soon. On information, seven firefighting units from Tongi, Joydebpur, Sreepur and Bhaluka rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control around 9 am after six hours of frantic efforts, he said. Machineries and a number of cotton belts were gutted in the fire. However, the origin of the fire could not be known immediately.

2 killed as bus plunges into ditch

At least 2 people were killed and 20 others injured when a bus plunged into a ditch in Mollikerpar area on Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Narayanganj on Wednesday night. The identities of the deceased could not be ascertained immediately, said Abdul Kaium Ali Sardar, officer-in-charge of Kanchpur Highway Police. A Comilla bound bus of Tisha Paribahan plunged into a roadside ditch while the driver lost control over the steering around 10pm, leaving two people including a female passenger dead on the spot and 20 others severely injured.

Free kidney check up at United Hospital

More than 500 patients were given free medical checkup at the capital’s United Hospital, marking the World Kidney Day yesterday. Earlier, hospital’s chief nephrologists Professor M Mujibul Haque Molla opened a health booth and engaged physicians, nurses and others concerned to conduct the free kidney check up for the patients at the hospital. This year’s theme of the day is: Kidney and Women’s Health. Speaking on the occasion, Professor M Mujibul Haque Molla told the patients, “We are always at your service in giving treatment for your kidney related complications.” Later, senior physicians addressed a seminar, where they stressed on proper awareness to keep human kidneys free from any complication.

Death anniv of Ariful Huq today

Today is the first death anniversary of Ariful Huq Rony, younger brother of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq. On this day he died at a hospital in the United States at the age of 56. On the occasion, a doa mahfil will be held after the Juma prayers at Central Jame Mosque, Mirpur said a press release. His relatives, friends and well-wishers are requested to pray for the salvation of his departed soul.
