Int’l seminar on philosophy begins today at RU

RAJSHAHI: A two-day international seminar on philosophy- 2108 will begin today at Senate Bhaban of Rajshahi University (RU). The Philosophy Department Alumni Association of RU is organising the  programme while many eminent writers and researchers from home and abroad are expected to present in the event.

General Secretary of Philosophy Department Alumni Association SM Abu Bakar confirmed the matter taking to the reporters.   RU Vice-Chancellor Prof M Abdus Sobhan will be the chief guest while eminent note writer and former professor of Philosophy department Hasan Azizul Hoque will preside over the programme.

Besides, Prof Anisuzzman of Dhaka University, Prof Modubita Chattopadhyay of Jadavpur University, Prof Sontush Kumar Paul of Burdwan University, Prof Luthofor Rahman from Jagannath University, Prof Anuarullah of Jahangirnagor University, are expected to present as honorable guests. Prof Asaduzzaman, chairman of RU Philosophy department will deliver welcome speech.

IUB observes Int’l  Women’s Day

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, the School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) organised a seminar on ‘Press for Progress: Achieving Gender Equality in the Academia’ and an exclusive presentation of Monipuriraas dance yesterday  on IUB campus at Bashundhara in the capital, says a press release.

Prof Sadeka Halim, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Dhaka University, was the keynote speaker of the seminar. Dr Mahbub Alam, Dean of the School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences of IUB, delivered welcome speech.

Thanking Prof Halim for enlightening the students and the faculties of IUB, Chief Guest Prof M Omar Rahman, Vice-Chancellor of IUB mentioned, ‘currently about 40 per cent members of the faculty at IUB are female and the management is endeavoring to increase the number’.

Discussing the major issues in gender equality in academia, in her keynote presentation, Prof Halim mentioned, there should be political voice and platform for women and the number of women should be enhanced in  decision making policies. Deans and heads of different schools and departments, senior members of the faculty and IUB students attended this the seminar. Thereafter, the ‘MonipuriRaasNritya: Celebrating Ethnic Women’s Rights of Passage’ mesmerized the whole audience.
