Woman beaten dead in Magura
Magura: A housewife was beaten to death allegedly by her husband at Lashkarpur village in Sadar upazila on Wednesday, reports UNB. Elias Hossain, officer-in-charge of Magura Police Station, said Hashem Mollah got married to Khadiza, daughter of Iqbal Hossain, 15 years back.
As there is no issue of the Hashem-Khadiza couple, Hashem again married a woman and since then he used to torture Khadiza.
On March 6, Hashem and Khadiza picked up a quarrel over a family feud. At one stage, Hashem beat Khadiza up mercilessly, leaving her critically injured.
He then sent Khadiza to her father’s residence where she succumbed to her injuries on Wednesday.
On information, police recovered the body and arrested Hashem Ali in this connection.
A case was filed.
Man held for ‘raping’ minor girl
Thakurgaon: Police detained a man for allegedly raping a minor girl in Mohalbari area of Ranishankail municipality on Wednesday, reports UNB.
The accused was identified as Tuhin, a scrapped metal trader of Mohalbari area, said Abdul Mannan, officer-in-charge of Ranishankail Police Station.
Tuhin took the class-V student to his residence when she was returning home from school and violated her, police said quoting locals.
Hearing her screaming, locals rushed to the spot and detained Tuhin. Later he was handed over to police.
She sustained severe injuries during the incident, said police adding that she was taken to Ranishankail Upazila Health Complex. Later the duty doctor referred her to Thakurgaon Sadar Hispital considering the severity the injury.
Hundi trader held in Benapole

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested a Hundi trader along with Tk 30 lakh from Sadipur village in Benapole on Wednesday.
The arrestee was identified as Mostaq Ali, 26, of the village. A BGB team arrested Babu Mia while he was coming from India with huge money around 6:30pm, said Subedar Ohab Ali of BGB 49 Battalion.
Later, Tk 30,47,000 was recovered from a bag he was carrying with him.
The arrestee was handed over to Benapole Port Police Station, he added.
Two fishermen jailed for catching ‘jatka’ in Chandpur

A mobile court yesterday sentenced two fishermen to one year’s jail for catching hilsa fry defying the government ban.
Sadar Upazila Taskforce conducted a drive in the Meghna River stretching from Rajrajeshwar to Harina at night and arrested two fishermen while catching hilsa fry, said Firoz Alam Mridha, senior fisheries officer of Sadar upazila.
Later, the arrestees were produced before a mobile court led by assistant commissioner (Land), also an executive magistrate, Avisek Das.
Later, the court sentenced Md Khorshed Alam, 20, son of Kajal Khan, a resident Bokaul Kandi, and Md Shahjalal, 27, son of Mohammd Hossain, a resident of North Tarabunia in Sakhipur upazila to one year’s imprisonment.
Student killed in road crash

A college student was killed in a road accident on Boda-Marea road in Boda upazila of Panchagarh district on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Shahnaz Akter, 17, daughter of Safiul Islam of Proshad para village in the upazila. She was a student of Boda Women’s College.
According to locals sources, the accident took place in Noyadigi area when she was returning home after completing her tuition classes. When she reached Noyadigi a tractor hit Shahnaz from front leaving her critically injured.
Locals rushed her to Boda health complex but she died on the way. Officer-in-charge of Boda police station Aminul Islam said no case has been filed in this connection.
