Bangladesh warmed-up well ahead of their Nidahas Trophy Tri-nation series opener as they sealed a 41-run win over Sri Lanka President XI yesterday at Colombo Cricket Club ground.

It was the lone practice game for Bangladesh which will take the field on Thursday with the match against India.

Bangladesh racked up a mammoth 186 for five after which the bowlers bowled well in tandem to bowl the opponent out for 145.

Mushfiqur Rahim and captain Mahmudullah Riyad were to the fore in Bangladesh’s big total, which would give them some confidence ahead of taking the mighty India. Mushfiqur struck a 44 ball-65, while Riyad smashed 43 off 27.

Liton Das who was opening the innings alongside Soumya Sarkar after the team management decided to give Tamim Iqbal a rest, scored 40 off just 18 to help the side to get a fluent start.

Sri Lankan president XI however fielded a strong side, led by Dhananjaya de Silva who was the regular member of the Lankan side during Sri Lanka’s tour in Bangladesh in January.

Apart from him, the players like Lahiru Kumara, Lakshan Sandakan, Niroshan Dickwella, Angelo Perera, Sadeera Samaraweera who played in the Lankan national team in the past or near past were also included in the squad.

But Bangladesh bowlers made the victory facile one by bowling in disciplined manner.

Fast bowlers Rubel Hossain and Taskin Ahmed contributed in valiant effort as they bagged two wickets apiece, conceding just 19 and 16 runs respectively in three overs.

Soumya Sarkar, Abu Haider Rony and Nazmul Islam grabbed one wicket apiece.
