Weeklong Bangladesh Street Theatre Festival begins today

A weeklong Bangladesh Patha Natak Utsab 2018 (Bangladesh Street Theatre Festival) will begin today on the premises of Central Shaheed Minar in the capital. With the theme “Chai Nishongko Chitto, Gori Manab Muktir Britto’, Bangladesh Pathanatak Parishad has organised the festival. Noted director-actor Mamunur Rashid will inaugurate the weeklong street theatre festival as chief guest today at 4:30pm, while Sammilita Sangskritik Jote president Golam Kuddus, theatre activist Jhuna Chowdhury and Bangladesh Abriti Samannay Parishad general secretary Ahkamullah will be present as special guests.

Presided over by Bangladesh Pathanatak Parishad president Mannan Hira, convener of Bangladesh Pathanatak Utsab Parshad Dr Mohammad Bari will deliver the welcome speech at the event.

Today, on the inaugural day, the festival will present a street play by Samay Natyadal.

On the other hand, Sadanonda Sarkar and his troupe from Khulna will present Kabigaan at the inaugural ceremony.

Bangladesh Pathanatak Parishad has been organising the street theatre festival on the premises of Central Shaheed Minar since 2002. This year, about 50 theatre groups, enlisted with Bangladesh Pathanatak Parishad, will stage their plays in the festival until March 7.
