Two-day festival begins tomorrow

A two-day street drama festival titled ‘Theatre Angan Patho Natya Utsab’ (Theatre Angan Street Drama Festival), organised by Gitanjali Academy of Fine Arts, will begin tomorrow at the Botomul of Rabindra Sarani in the capital’s Uttara area.

The festival has been dedicated to the memory of Language Movement veteran and poet Mahbubul Alam Chowdhury.

Additional IGP Md Mokhlesur Rahman BPM (Bar) will inaugurate the festival as chief guest on the opening day at 4pm. Presided over by Professor Emeritus Rafiqul Islam, the late poet’s wife Joushan Ara Rahman, former director general of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Bhuiyan Safikul Islam, Apollo Footwear Ltd. Managing Director Abul Kalam Azad, Patho Natok Parishad president Mannan Heera and its vice-president Dr Mohammad Bari will attend the event as special guests.

On the other hand, former president of BGMEA Md. Atiqul Islam will be present as chief guest on the concluding day.  

During the two-day festival, prominent theatre troupes like Aranyak Natyadal, Theatre (Arambagh), Natyapuran, Theatre Bhuban, Utsho Natyadal, Somoy Natyadal, Prachyanat, Charuniram, Unmukto Theatre, Natyabhumi and host troupe Theatre Angan will stage their notable plays.

Moreover, the opening show of the play ‘Fuleshhorir Kabbyagatha’, written and directed by Mannan Heera, will be staged on the concluding day.
