Youth stabbed dead in Savar

A young man was stabbed to death by miscreants in Badda Bhatpara School ground in Savar on Monday evening. The deceased was identified as Sharif Hossain, 18, son of Moslem Miah, hailing from Rampur village under Gouripur upazila in Mymensingh district, used to live in Boktarpur area and worked in a shoe factory. Mohsinul Quader, officer-in-charge of Savar Model Police Station, said that a gang of miscreants called Sharif out from house in the evening. They took him to the field and stabbed indiscriminately, leaving him critically injured. The miscreants also stabbed a worker as he came to rescue the young man. The two injured were rushed to Enam Medical College Hospital where doctors declared Sharif dead.

Three killed in road accident

Three persons including a baby were killed and at least 14 others injured in a road accident in Kamarpara area on Rajshahi-Chapainawabganj highway in Rajshahi yesterday morning. Police said, the accident occurred when two passengers buses collided head-on in the area left three people killed and at least 14 people injured. One of the dead was identified as Faruque Hossain, 35, son of Ataur Rahman of Kuthipara area under the same upazila. He was the driver of one of the ill-fated buses. Injured persons were admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital and Godagari Upazila Health Complex, said Altaf Hossain, Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) of Godagari Police Station.

Rohingya woman detained

Police detained a Rohingya woman from the premises of passport office in Khulna on Monday night. The arrestee was identified as Sharmin Akhter, 22, daughter of Hamid Ullah, hailing from Rohingya Ukhia Camp in Cox’s Bazar. Mamtazul Haque, officer-in-charge of Sonadanga Police Station, said that Sharmin came to Khulna along with his boyfriend Saifullah Chowdhury, 44, son of Nurul Kabir Chowdhury, hailing from Satkania in Chittagong, two days back and was staying at a hotel in city. Police detained them when they went to the passport office area at night for talking to a passport broker.

One dies in Khulna road mishap

A push cart driver was killed as a stone- laden truck knocked him from behind in Bangladesh Bank area of the city yesterday morning. However, identity of the deceased could not be known immediately. Officer-in-Charge of Khulna Kotwali thana Mizanur Rahman told BSS that the man died on the spot around 9am after the truck which was coming from Custom ghat area knocked down him from behind. The OC said police seized the truck while its driver managed to flee.
