‘Reelect AL to continue  country’s development’

MANIKGANJ: State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Zahid Maleque, MP urged the people to reelect Awami League to continue the ongoing development activities in the country, reports BSS.

He said “there is no alternative to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in Bangladesh for further development of the country”.

Bangladesh is witnessing huge uplift activities under the charismatic dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, he added.

The state minister said this while distributing prizes among the winners in the annual sports competition of “Jatirjonok Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman High School” as the chief guest on Saturday.

The function was presided over by Afsar uddin Sarker, Chairman, Garpara Union Parishad and General Secretary, Manikganj Sadar Upazila Awami League.

Zahid Maleque also attended a courtyard meeting at Dautia in Dhighi Union of Manikganj Sadar Upazila with Dighi Union Parishad Chairman Abdul Matin Mollah in the chair.

In the afternoon, the state minister joined the inaugural function of “Colonel Malek Memorial Tennis Tournament” at the newly built Tennis Court in front of Manikganj District Sports Association as the chief guest.

2 ‘robbers’ caught red handed


Two suspected robbers were caught red handed while committing robbery at Karmokerpatti in Golachipa Municipality town of Patuakhali district on Saturday night.

Police also recovered 15 cocktails, 6 rounds of bullets, one pistol and one motorbike from their possession.

The arrestees were identified as Kibria, 45, of Krishnanagar village in Bakerganj upazila and Amir Hamza, 35, of Guilasakhali village in Mathbaria,

According to police sources, a group of 7 to 8 robbers swooped on a jewelry shop and robbed gold ornaments worth around TK 16 lakh and cash money Tk 1.5 lakh. At least 15 people were injured during that time as the robbers exploded bombs and stabbed people who tried to resist them.

Later, the detained robbers were handed over to police and the injured were admitted to   Golachipa Upazila Health Complex and Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital. In this connection, Nirmal Karmokar, owner of the jewelry shop filed a robbery case with Galachipa police station, said Md Zahid Hossain, officer-in-charge of the police station.

Four Shibir men arrested

Police arrested four Islami Chhatra Shibir men including a central leader of the organisation from Konabari area in Gafargaon upazila of Mymensingh Saturday evening.

The arrestees are- Muntasir Billah, research affairs secretary of Chhatra Shibir’s central unit and its activists Mofazzol Hossain, Hafiz Uddin and Abul Kalam Azad, police said.

Md Muklesur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Pagla Police Station said Muntasir along with three others were holding a secret meeting at a school of Konabari under the police station Saturday evening.

On information, police raided the area and arrested them. They were produced before Chief Judicial Magistrate Court here today that sent them to jail, said the OC. A case was lodged with the police station.

Man stabbed to death

A betel leaf farmer was stabbed to death by muggers in front of a college in the district town early yesterday.

The deceased was identified as Jalal Uddin, 42, son of Tokim Uddin, a resident of Kashipur village.

Emdadul Haque Sheikh, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police station, said a gang of muggers swooped on Jalal in front of government K C College around 4 am while he was going to a market for selling betel leaf.
