‘Opekkhoman’ to be staged today

Nagarik Natya Sampradaya will stage its much acclaimed production ‘Opekkhoman’ today at 6:30pm at the Experimental Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Segun Bagicha (BSA) in the capital. Based on the works of Ibsen, Rabindranath Tagore and Syed Shamsul Haq, veteran theatre personality Ataur Rahman have directed the play.

The play ‘Opekkhoman’ takes place in a railway station called ‘Achintyapur’. Here, characters from famous plays such as Nora from ‘A Doll’s House’ (Ibsen), the elderly man from ‘Irsha’(Syed Shamsul Haq), Dr. Stockman from ‘An Enemy of the People’ (Ibsen) waits in the railway station to start a new life as they have lost their positions in the society in their own play.

With an influence from Rabindranath Tagore, the play merges Syed Shamsul Haq’s ‘Irsha’ and two Ibsen plays – ‘A Doll's House’ and ‘An Enemy of the People’ to narrate a new ending for the characters in the play.
