Hotline opened for Bangladesh expatriates in Maldives

Bangladesh has opened a hotline for its citizens living in the Maldives for any kind of support as the Maldivian government declared a state of emergency there for 15 days, reports UNB. In a press statement, the Bangladesh Embassy in Male has urged the expatriates and tourists to call the embassy over the telephone number +9603320859 for any support. The embassy has also urged them to remain cautious, and avoid going outside unnecessarily and attending gatherings such as rallies, meetings and processions.

On Monday, Maldives President Abdulla Yameen declared a 15-day state of emergency as the political crisis deepened in the Indian Ocean nation amid an increasingly bitter standoff between the President and the Supreme Court. Chief Justice Abdulla Sayeed was arrested yesterday by the security forces. Earlier, the political crisis flared up after Maldives President Abdulla Yameen refused to comply with the court’s order to release political dissidents.
