DPL teams bring overseas players from India, Pakistan

Dhaka Premier League (DPL) for the upcoming 2018 season is all set to get underway just after one day at three different grounds of Fatullah and Savar across the country on Monday.

Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM) meanwhile released the fixtures for the next three round fixture of the prestigious league of the country’s domestic cricket competition.

Abahani Limited will take on Khelaghar Shamaj Kalyan Samity on the opening day at the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Prothisthan (BKSP) Ground-4 in Savar.

Reigning champions Gazi Group Cricketers will face off newly-promoted Agrani Bank Cricket Club at BKSP Ground-3, while Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club will compete against other newly-entrant Shinepukur Cricket Club on the first day of the first round outings at the Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium.

After holding some training sessions, a few teams played practice matches before stepping into the main league.

Newly-promoted Shinepukur Cricket Club played a practice match with Abahani Limited on the University Liberal Arts of Bangladesh (ULAB) campus ground to hone their skills and techniques before going into the final clash of the top-level cricket.    Khelaghar Shamaj Kalyan Samity also played a practice match against Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited at the ULAB campus ground.

17-time DPL champion Abahani Limited brought Indian all-rounder Sachin Rana for this DPL what its coach Sheikh Masud Iqbal Mamun told The Independent.

“We started their practice for the last four days at the ULAB campus ground. This time we brought IPL-playing Sachin Rana as foreign player,” said Sheikh Mamun.

Khelaghar will field Indian Ashok Melani against their first day rival Abahani Limited.  Agrani Bank Cricket Club has picked Pakistan cricketer Rafatullah Mohmad to start their DPL mission against Gazi Group Cricketers, who grabbed experienced India Rajat Bhatia.

Shinepukur Cricket Club gained the service of another Indian cricketer in-form Uday Kaul, who will showcase his scintillation against Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club, who brought Puneet Bisht back for the current season.

On the other hand, Prime Bank Cricket confirmed the service of Kunal Chandel. Either Manvinder Bisla or Iqbal Abdullah will play for Kalabagan Krira Chakra and Johan Andre Simpson will come here in Bangladesh to play for Brothers Union. It’s learnt from the high-ups of Mohammedan Sporting Club, who are yet to finalise their foreign player. They will confirm within one-two days but Bipul Sharma could come to play for Mohammedan.

Legends of Rupganj like Mohammedan are yet to fix their foreign player for the initial few round games though Parvez Rasool will play for them since February 14.
