Meeting on 12th intíl 
congress on AIDS begins

The preparation meeting on 12th International Congress on AIDS in Asia and the Pacific (ICAAP12) began yesterday at BRAC CDM at Khagan in Ashulia in Savar. The inaugural session of the meeting was chaired by Dr Joe Thomas, secretary general of ICAAP12 and Educative Director, Partners of Population and Development. Syed Monjurul Islam, secretary of the ministry of health and family welfare and chairman of local organisation was present as chief guest. The session was addressed by co-chairman of ICAAP12 Prof Nurul Nabi, Dr Tasnim Azim, Habiba Akter and Prof Kamrul Hasan Khan, Regional Director of Communicable Diseases of WHO, Dr Swarup Sarker and UNAIDS country Coordinator Leo Kenny also spoke in the opening session. The 12th International Congress on AIDS in Asia and the Pacific (ICAAP12) will take place in Dhaka from 20 to 23 November this year. The object of the congress is to provide a platform for sharing of knowledge between counties leading in ending AIDS by 2030 in this region and come up with strong political commitment for combating HIV. The theme of the congress is: Be the Change for an AIDS Free Generation, Our right to health. This Congress will bring together over 3500 delegates from the region and will be hosted by the Bangladesh government. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to inaugurate the Congress.
