Dhaka, May 20: The execution of independence hero Lieutenant Colonel Abu Taher, Bir Uttam, in 1976 was a clear case of extra-judicial killing, said the High Court in its full verdict released on Monday. Lt Col Taher, a sector commander during the 1971 War of Liberation, was tried for high treason in secret by a tribunal inside Dhaka Central Jail on July 17, 1976.

Nasim against ban on rallies

Dhaka, May 20: Ruling Awami League (AL) presidium member Mohammad Nasim on Monday said that the current political impasse will not be resolved by imposing ban on political rallies and processions.
"I think that it is a political problem and it should be resolved politically, not by imposing ban on rallies and processions," Nasim, a senior AL leader, told reporters prior to joining a discussion in the city.
