Dhaka, Feb 3: State-run oil and gas exploration company BAPEX is going to dig two exploration wells in Kapasia of Gazipur, and Sunetra of Sunamganj and Netrakona.
“We have finished setting up rigs at the Kapasia structure. The digging will start next week,” Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production company Limited managing director Mortuza Ahmad Faruque told bdnews24.com on Friday.
A new exploration well will be dug in Sunamganj-Netrakona structure Sunetra by the end of this month, he said. “The work to transfer rigs there is on.”
The BAPEX chief said another well will be dug in Srikail of Comilla in March.
The reserve of gas in Kapasia was preliminarily found through a two dimensional seismic survey conducted along a 200-kilometre line.
According to the survey, the expected amount of gas in the reserve is 550-660 billion cubic feet . “It would be possible to lift 250-350 BCF gas from there.” BAPEX had dug an exploration well in Srikail in 2004 but found no gas.
A recent 2D seismic survey along a 150-kilometre line showed that there might be a reserve there as well.
The company conducted another 2D seismic survey along a 600-kilometre line in Sunetra. Officials expect that the size of the reserve is two-three trillion cubic feet.
BAPEX, a company under the Bangladesh Oil, Gas and Mineral Corporation (Petrobangla), has found gas in three fields so far — the first one in Shahbazpur of Bhola in 1995, Salda of Brahmanbaria in 1996, and Sundalpur of Noakhali in August last year. bdnews24.com
