DHAKA, Feb 3:  Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation (BJMC) will soon start exporting jute products to Thailand and Vietnam. In a meeting Thursday, BJMC reviewed the jute products export situation and decided to expedite the export to Thailand and Vietnam. BJMC chairman T D Mitra presided over the meeting that was attended by chiefs of all jute mills. Export of jute products has suffered a setback due to unrest in different countries in Middle East and Northern Africa. Syria is not importing any jute products from Bangladesh and jute goods export to other countries such as Egypt and Libya fell abnormally. Different countries in Middle East and Northern Africa used to import around 1.25 lakh ton of jute products from Bangladesh before the crisis in Egypt, Syria and Libya.
BJMC chairman told the meeting that it exported around one lakh ton of jute products till January against its export target of 2.20 lakh ton in the current fiscal. BJMC will be able to achieve the export target if it could properly exploit export opportunities in Thailand and Vietnam.     BSS
