Electricity prices likely to go up from March
A fresh electricity price hike may be announced at the end of this month, becoming effective from March, according to sources with the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC). The power price hike is unlikely to be more than 10 percent, said sources. The countdown to a potential power tariff hike started in December last year after the BERC in late November finished hearing proposals from seven power production, distribution, and transmission companies. At the hearing, BERC proposed a 23.28 percent rise in bulk prices starting from 2020, to tackle a massive potential financial deficit of Tk 8,560.6 crore.
