Highways to come under tol
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has instructed the ministries concerned to take steps to collect tolls from the users of national highways for raising funds for road construction and maintenance works, planning minister MA Mannan said yesterday. Following a meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC), the minister quoted the PM as saying that toll offices would be set up on the four national highways soon to collect toll from users. There are four national highways—Dhaka-Chattogram, Dhaka-Sylhet, Dhaka-Khulna and Dhaka-Rangpur—in the country. “The money collected from toll would be reserved only for road works,” the minister told reporters.
