Weakened Fani hits Bangladesh today
Leaving a trail of devastation after making landfall at the Indian city of Puri yesterday morning, Cyclone Fani was moving towards Bangladesh and expected to hit early today or in the morning. Most parts of the country, including the capital, began to experience the effects of the cyclonic storm yesterday, which caused heavy rainfall and gusty winds. The cyclone was located about 410km southwest of Mongla port and 475km southwest of Payra port at 6pm yesterday, said the Met Office updated bulletin. A woman was killed by a falling tree and about 30 villages in coastal districts of Patuakhali and Bagerhat were inundated as flood dams broke due to a tidal surge due to the effect of Fani.
