The second phase of the fifth local government elections to 116 upazilas in 16 districts are going to be held today. The Election Commission (EC) has already completed all preparations to hold the polls in a free, fair and credible manner. The commission has already relieved six officers in charge of  Moulvibazar, Gaibanda, Dinajpur, Bogura, Naogaon and Bandarban because of their alleged involvement in irregularities with connection to the polls. In the second-phase elections, a total of 377 candidates are contesting for the chairman’s post, 548 candidates for the vice-chairman’s post, and 400 contenders for the female vice-chairperson’s post.
