543 appeal for review
A total of 543 hopeful candidates submitted their appeals to the Election Commission in the last three days, challenging the cancellation of their nomination papers during scrutiny.  The returning officers on December 2 cancelled a total of 786 nomination papers out of 3,065 on various grounds including conviction, graft cases, loan defaults, flawed filling of forms. With the submission of appeals being over, it has been found that a total of 243 candidates did not appeal to the Commission, challenging the cancellation of their papers. A total of 222 drop-out hopeful candidates submitted appeals yesterday, while 237 filed appeals on Tuesday and 84 on Monday, said EC secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed yesterday.
