Experts decry ‘lack 
of autonomy’
The quality of education at the tertiary level will be at stake if the planned Higher Education Commission (HEC) act is passed without ensuring the body’s full autonomy, experts said. The draft law for the HEC includes provisions for government control in decision-making, they added. The experts also said that full independence of the HEC was necessary for taking any decision in the field of higher education. But, if the new body becomes dependant on the government for its functions and activities, it would be conflicting, they added.
