Amid the ongoing anti-drug drives across the country, those arrested for their alleged involvement in drug dealing have refrained from filing bail petitions because they felt custody was a safer option at this time. According to sources, accused drug dealers usually file bail petitions in the High Court (HC) every time. HC officials told The Independent on condition of anonymity that the ratio of bail petitions filed by the accused in drug-related cases was at least 20 per cent and it would increase up to 30-35 per cent when the Supreme Court (SC) would go on vacation. “The number of bail pleas in drug cases has now come to almost zero,” said an official.
