Ruling Awami League  candidate Talukder Abdul Khaleque won the Khulna city mayoral polls as he bagged 1,76,905 votes according to unofficial results. His nearest rival BNP candidate Nazrul Islam Manju bagged 1,08,954 votes. The election to the Khulna City Corporation (KCC) was marred by stray incidents of violence and allegations of booth capturing, vote rigging, snatching of ballot papers and driving out polling agents from centres. Polling at three centres was suspended because of violence, booth capturing and forcible stamping of ballot papers. Earlier, voting began at 8:00am and ended at 4pm without any break.
