Defence tactics delay graft case trials
Even after more than five-and-a-half years of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filing many sensitive cases, including the Hallmark Group and Destiny scams, the trial proceedings of several such cases are still incomplete due to many legal complexities. State lawyers alleged that the defence teams moved the High Court to secure stay orders several times after filing of the ACC cases, thereby delaying the trial proceedings. On October 4, 2012, the ACC had filed 11 cases against some Sonali Bank officials and HallMark Group with the Ramna police station for swindling Tk 2,686 crore from the Ruposhi Bangla branch of the state-owned bank by showing fake documents.
