Fertiliser overdose spells doom
Use of excessive chemical fertilisers and pesticides has increasingly been posing serious health risks to people, experts have said. They have observed that harmful chemicals are entering human bodies through the food chain. Immoderate use of chemicals is also detrimental to the environment and ecology, they noted. The experts also said that excessive use of urea is responsible for various diseases of rice and declining soil fertility. Urea produces ammonia emanation, contributes to acid rain, groundwater contamination and ozone depletion due to release of nitrous oxide by denitrification process.
