Fish revolution
For the first time in its history, Bangladesh has recorded surplus fish production with an annual output of 41.33 lakh tonnes against a demand of 40.55 lakh tonnes. Experts, however, said improvements were needed in water and seed qualities as well as fish culture systems, while human disturbances in breeding places and industrial pollution remained areas of concern. The issues should be addressed to further boost fish production in the country, they added. “Bangladesh has achieved self-sufficiency in fish production. We had a target of producing 40.55 lakh tonnes of fish in 2016–17, but we crossed the target by producing 41.33 lakh tonnes.
