The Energy Division has sought the prime minister’s intervention to get a relief from high taxes (122.22%) on gas sale imposed by the National Board of Revenue (NBR) to ensure smooth supply of gas to the industries. During a meeting in May, energy sector officials had informed the prime minister that after the proposed incorporation of imported liquefied natural gas (LNG) in the national grid from the first quarter of 2018, gas price would be more than double if the taxes were not removed. “We explained to the PM that there would be a huge crisis when imported gas is blended with local gas next year.
