BSS

RAJSHAHI: Speakers at a discussion here have underscored the need for more pro- active scientific and industrial research for benefiting the nation and its people, reports BSS.
The speakers opined that all the industrial research and findings of those should be linked to the private entrepreneurs for successful marketing of the products together with making those familiarize and accessible to the consumers in general. The observation came in the opening session of a daylong seminar titled “Research and Development and Service Activities: Prospects, Challenge and Overcoming" in the city on Tuesday.
Local station of Bangladesh Council for Science and Industrial Research (BCSIR) organised the seminar in its conference hall. Fazley Hossain Badsha, MP, addressed the session as chief guest with BCSIR Director Dr Hosna Parveen Noor in the chair. President of Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industry Md Muniruzzaman and BSTI Director Altaf Hossain spoke as special guests.
“You should be practical and your research outputs must be people- oriented," lawmaker Badsha reminded the scientists adding that carrying out valueless research by spending huge public money must be stopped.
Referring to the adverse impact of climate change, he called upon the scientists to innovate adaptive measures through in-depth research to coup with the unpleasant situation.
Badsha referred to the government's commitment to build a knowledge, science and technology-based society and asked the researchers to supplement the endeavor through their wholehearted efforts.  Dr Hushna Parveen apprised the meeting about the on-going research activities and so far achievements of the station.
