JS body for increasing allocation for social safety net

UNB

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Social Welfare Ministry yesterday suggested the government to enhance the allocation for social safety net in the upcoming budget, reports UNB.
It also suggested the Social Services Department to provide financial assistance to helpless patients with deadly liver cirrhosis and cancer by disbursement of cheques among them through coordination with local MPs.
The parliamentary watchdog came up with the suggestions at its 28th meeting held at the Jatiya Sangsad with its chairman Mozammel Hossain in the chair.
The committee also asked the Social Services Department to give promotion to its eligible officials by fulfilling vacant posts on urgent basis with a view to making its services dynamic.
It also suggested preparing specific curriculum and appointment of specialised teachers for autistic children.
Committee members State Minister for Social Welfare Nuruzzaman Ahmed, Manoranjan Shill Gopal, Ayesha Ferdaus, Md Habibe Millat, Sheikh Hafizur Rahman, Md Abdul Matin, Begum Lutfa Taher and Syeda Saira Mohsin attended the meeting.
