Three-day ‘Bangladesh Film Festival’ in Kolkata

To promote contemporary Bangladeshi films to the Indian audience,  Kolkata-based Bidhannagar Film Society in association with Federation of Film Societies of India has organized a three-day film festival titled ‘Bangladesh Film Festival’ at the Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre in Kolkata, India, where 8 Bangladeshi films will be screened.  ‘Anil Bagchir Ekdin’, a film based on a novel by late celebrated writer Humayun Ahmed, will open the festival on April 14. Centering the story of the Liberation War of Bangladesh, noted film director Morshedul Islam has produced the film. Aref Syed played the role of Anil Bagchi, while Jyotika Jyoti shared the screen as Anil’s sister in the film. Other important casts of the film include Gazi Rakayet, Farhana Mithu, Shahidul Alam Sachchu, A.M. Mohsin, Khalilur Rahman Quaderi and Misha Shawdagar, among others.
Ahasan Kabir directed full-length feature film  ‘Pratyabartan’ (Journey to the Root) and Tasmiah Afrin Mou’s short film ‘Kobi Swamir Mrittur Por Amar Jobanbondi’ (The Statement After My Poet Husband’s Death) will also be screened on the first day of the festival.
Abu Sayeed’s National award winning film ‘Kirtonkhola’  will be screened on the second day of the festival. The story of the film revolves around the riverside gypsy community.  The film stars popular actors Raisul Islam Asad, Pijush Bandyopadhyay, Jayanta Chattopadhyay, Azad Abul Kalam, Tomalika Kormokar, Naila Azad Nupur and Mamunur Rashid. Besides, Abu Shahed Emon’s Internationally-acclaimed multi award winning film ‘Jalaler Golpo’ (Jalal’s Story) will be screened as well.
Morshedul Islam’s ‘Amar Bondhu Rashed’ a fictional story based on the Liberation War of Bangladesh and written by the popular children’s literature Dr Mohammad Jafar Iqbal will be screened on the final day of the festival on April 16. Other two Bangladeshi films Khandakar Sumon’s ‘Pounopunik’ and Nurul Alam Atique’s ‘Doob Satar’ are scheduled to be screened on the last day of the festival.
