BCB out to prepare for U-19 World Cup in New Zealand

Team set to leave for Sri Lanka to play in Asia Cup
Sports Reporter

Even though the Youth World Cup is almost two years away, the newly formed Bangladesh Under-19 team starts preparing a roadmap of success.

From the past experience, the management of the team had seen the youth should give a huge exposure in different condition. And for this batch it is imperative considering, the next Youth World Cup will be held in New Zealand in 2018. The condition in New Zealand is considered always tougher for a visiting team, specially for the Asian countries.
Keeping those factors in mind, the team management wants the team to get acclimatised with the condition and keep them in continuous cricket ahead of the tournament. For the first step, they will participate into the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Under-19 Asia Cup, to be held in Sri Lanka. This will be the newly formed team’s first assignment.
Saif Hasan who was the important member of Mehedi Hasan Miraj’s side in the last Youth World Cup in Bangladesh, will lead the side. Afif Hossain Dhrubo who shot into the limelight with a five-wicket haul on his debut in BPL, is his vice-captain.
The team will leave the country tomorrow (Tuesday) for Sri Lanka with high hopes of doing well.
“There is lack of experience if we compare this team with the last Under-19 team. We haven’t played enough match but as we start playing together, we hope we’ll gain experience and at the same time we gel together well,” said captain Saif Hasan.
“Most of us played together in Under-17 level. So we have good friendship amongst us. Now we need some experience.”
Coach Ehsan Karim Jewel also emphasized on gaining experience as he looks to build a strong team, keeping the New Zealand Youth World Cup in mind.
“The Asia Cup is a platform for us to gain some valuable experience. The team is well balanced and we have been in practice since last August. We have played in Cox’s Bazar, BKSP and Mirpur,” he said.
“Actually we want to build a strong unit for the next World Cup. We need to do well there.”
Only pacer Abdul Halim is a player alongside Saif Hasan who has the experience of playing the last Youth World Cup at home den. Saif has been the most experienced player in this squad with 33 Youth ODIs. He also played 12 first class matches.
“We have picked up the players from different level carefully. The players who are in the squad played in Under-13, 15 and 17 level. We have chosen the best players. I think they are capable of doing well,” Jewel said.
