AIUB VC elected in the IAU board
American International University – Bangladesh (AIUB) Vice-Chancellor Dr Carmen Z Lamagna has been elected as a member of the International Association of Universities (IAU) Administrative Board for the year 2016-20, says a press release.
The IAU, founded in 1950, is the UNESCO-based worldwide association of higher education institutions. It brings together institutions and organisations from some 120 countries for reflection and action on common concerns and collaborates with various international, regional and national bodies active in higher education. 

MoU signed between JU and Channel i
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Zoology department of Jahangirnagar University (JU) and Prakriti O Jiban Foundation of Channel i on the campus in Savar on Wednesday.
JU Treasurer Professor Dr Abul Khair and Chairman of Prakriti O Jiban Foundation Muqit Mazumder Babu signed the MoU on behalf of their respective institution, a JU press release said. JU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Farzana Islam, Dean of Biological Sciences faculty Professor Dr Abdul Zabber Hawlader and Chairman of Zoology department Professor Dr Manwar Hossain were present at the MoU signing function, among others, the release added. 

Manarat achieves Cambridge Outstanding Awards
For achieving excellence in the O-Level and A-Level examinations, British Council has awarded six students of Manarat Dhaka International School and College, says a press release. 
Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury distributed the certificates among the awardees at a hotel in the capital recently. In the O-Levels and A-Levels examinations held in this year June 2016, a total of 61 students from Bangladesh have been awarded. Among them 14 students have got the honour of achieving world’s highest marks and 38 have got the highest marks in Bangladesh in different subjects. In the A-Levels, two students of the AS class have been awarded. Among the awardees, Mehrin Tasfia Shawkat and Noshin Faiyrooz have achieved world’s highest marks in Mathematics. Mehrin Tasfia Shawkat has also achieved the highest marks in Physics in Bangladesh.

BUFT alumni awarded in South Korea
Parama Shayantony, a graduate of FDT Department of BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT), has recently obtained Masters degree in Fashion Design from Hanseo University, South Korea, says a press release. 
She took part in the biggest art competition in South Korea titled ‘The 17th Incheon Metropolitan City Art Exhibition’ held in December at Incheon Metropolitan City Art Exhibition, South Korea. In this exhibition she was awarded as ‘Special Winner’ and received the award from renowned South Korean Artist Cho Kyu Chang on December 3, 2016.  Parama went to Hanseo University, South Korea to do her Masters as part of the education collaboration between BUFT and Hanseo University. 

Conference on Bio-safety held at DU
A two-day long Second International Conference on "Bio-safety and Bio-security" began on Wednesday at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban Auditorium on Dhaka University (DU) campus. 
Bangladesh Bio-safety and Bio-security Association (BBBA) organised the event, a DU press release said in the capital.  Presided over by DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique, the inaugural session of the conference was addressed by Mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation Annisul Huq, Executive Director of icddr,b Professor John David Clemens, Deputy Chief of Mission of US Embassy in Dhaka David Meale, Director of High Containment Facilities of the University of California, USA Professor Dr Natasha K. Griffith, Executive Director of International Federation of Bio-safety Association MS Maureen Ellis and Chairman of DU Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology department Professor Dr Sharif Akhteruzzaman, among others.
