New trust fund launched at DU
A new trust fund titled ‘Justice Sikandar Ali Memorial Trust Fund’ was set up at Law Department of Dhaka University (DU).
Former Resident Representative of UNDP Sarwar Sultana, also daughter of  late Justice Sikandar Ali, yesterday handed over a cheque for Tk 14 lakh to DU Treasurer Prof Md Kamal Uddin at a function at the Vice-Chancellor's office on the campus to launch the fund, a DU press release said. Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Professor Dr Nasreen Ahmad, Dean of the Law faculty Professor Dr Taslima Monsoor, Chairman of the of the Law Department Professor Dr Borhan Uddin Khan, former Chairperson of the Mass Communication and Journalism Department Professor Akhtar Sultana and Acting Registrar of the university Md Enamuzzaman were present at the function, among others. The interest of the fund's capital would be distributed among some meritorious students of DU Law Department as the "Justice Sikandar Ali Trust Fund" scholarship every year, the release said. Late Justice Sikandar Ali was born on January 1 in 1907 at Barlekha under greater Sylhet division and died on December 31 in 1966, it said.

IU invites foreign students for 2016-17
KUSHTIA: The authorities of Islamic University (IU) have invited international students to apply for admission into any of its 25 undergraduate programmes under its 2016-17 academic sessions.
IU vice chancellor Prof M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari announced this, said a press release. A total of 50 students will be enrolled in the 2016-17 academic session. The university authorities will admit students from Nepal, Bhutan, Maldives, Srilanka, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Somalia, Cambodia and Indonesia. The applicant must have completed a twelve-year education (e.g.  A-Level in the British education system) not before 2015, and must have secured a CGPA of 3.5 on a scale of 5 or 3 on a scale of 4 in both O-Level and A-Level or equivalent examinations, the release added.

NSU observes World AIDS Day
The Public Health and Sciences Club of North South University (NSU) observed the World AIDS Day 2016 on Thursday, says a press release.
The programme began with a colorful rally led by Azim Uddin Ahmed, chairman, Board of Trustees, NSU, Professor Atiqul Islam, vice-chancellor, Prof GU Ahsan, dean, School of Health & Life Sciences and Professor M. Emdadul Huq, Director, Student Affairs. The rally followed by a seminar on HIV/AIDS, where a good number of distinguished professional experts presented their informative speech that covered the current situation of HIV and AIDS in Bangladesh and also on the risk factors focusing on the importance of community and social awareness. 
Prof GU Ahsan presented his concluding remarks on the importance of raising awareness about HIV and AIDS and how health promotion and health education are the key areas of focus for the youth of tomorrow to prevent AIDS in all aspects.

RU Film Sangsad celebrated anniversary 
RAJSHAHI: Rajshahi University Film Sangsad (RUFS) celebrated its 5th founding anniversary yesterday with great enthusiasm and festive mood.
 Marking the day, they chalked out elaborated programme including, colorful procession at 10am that rounding the main roads of the campus and terminated at the same place.  They also arranged a discussion meeting on Teacher-Student Center (TSC) conference room of the university. A film named ‘Kalpurush’ directed by prominent Indian film maker Baddo Dab Das Gupto was also screened on the programme.  Prominent note writer Prof Hasan Azizul Haque was the chief gust while RU mass and communication officer Prof Mosiur Rahman, student advisor Prof Mizanur Rahman, Rittik Gotok Film Society president Dr FMA Jahid, among others, were present as special guests.
