Six Bangladeshi films selected for Locarno Int’l Film Festival

Six Bangladeshi films have been selected for screening at the 69th Locarno International Film Festival Edition 2016, which will be held from August 3 to 13 in the city of Locarno, Switzerland. DhakaLive has news that among these six films, Kamar Ahmad Simon’s ‘Shunte Ki Pao!’ (Are You Listening!), Mostofa Sarwar Farooki’s ‘Television’ and Rubaiyat Hossain’s ‘Under Construction’ will be screened in the feature film category under a non-competitive section ‘Open Doors Screenings’, while Ishtiaque Zico’s ‘720 Degrees’, Mahde Hasan’s ‘I Am Time’ and Abu Shahed Emon’s ‘The Container’ will be screened in the short film category. Alongside Bangladesh, this year special focus has been given to Bhutan, Nepal and Myanmar for the ‘Open Doors Screenings’ section.
On the other hand, Kamar Ahmad Simon and Ishtiaque Zico have been selected for the ‘Open Door Hub’ section for their productions ‘Day After Tomorrow’ and ‘Cinema, City and Cats’ respectively. Eight feature-length projects have been selected to take part in the ‘Open Doors Hub’. Besides Bangladesh, the ‘Open Doors Hub’ section is exploring seven countries in South Asia, these are—Afghanistan, Bhutan, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
Moreover, Rubaiyat Hossain, Abu Shahed Emon and Aadnan Imtiaz Ahmed will get the chance to participate in a workshop in the section ‘Open Doors Lab’ for their production houses, namely Khona Talkies, Batayan Productions and Kino-Eye Films respectively. The ‘Open Doors Lab’ is focusing on emerging producers/filmmakers from Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar and Nepal, who are active in developing the local independent film scene and wish to start working internationally. l
