35 hurt in post-polls violence in Jhenidah, Brahmanbaria

At least 35 people were injured in post-election incidents of  violence in Brahmanbaria and Jhenidah districts yesterday, reports UNB. In Brahmanbaria, 30 people were injured in a clash between two groups of Awami League activists at Durgarampur village in Ashuganj upazila. Witnesses said an altercation ensued between the supporters of newly elected Awami League -backed Durgarampur Union Parishad chairman Sazu Khan and Awami League rebel candidate Moazzem Hosaain Mazu over the polls results around 8 am. At one stage, both groups attacked each other with lethal weapons, leaving 30 people injured. The injured were rushed to different clinics and hospitals of the district.
In Jhenidah, five people were injured in a clash between the supporters of Awami League-backed chairman candidate and Awami League rebel candidate at Banshbaria village in Maheshpur upazila. The clash broke out when supporters of defeated Awami League -backed candidate Masudur Rahman swooped on the supporters of Awami League rebel candidate Abdul Malek following his victory in the morning that left five people injured, said Prabir Kumar, officer-in-charge of Maheshpur Police Station. Later, their supporters also vandalised five to six houses in the area. Meanwhile, Border Guards Bangladesh members have been deployed in the area apprehending further trouble.
