Ruling Awami League General Secretary, Syed Ashraful Islam, has urged people to protect minorities in the country. Ashraf was addressing the biennial conference of Mahanagar Puja Committee at Dhakeshwari National Temple on Thursday. The slogan for the conference was ‘Build Resistance to Protect Identity of the Minorities’. He said it will be irrational to think that Shekh Hasina’s Government will sit idle if religious minorities are attacked. Meanwhile, Bangladesh Jatiya Hindu Mohajote (Bangladesh National Hindu Grand Alliance) formed a human chain at the National Press Club the same day demanding separate elections for minorities. Govinda Chandra Hawlader, Secretary General of the organisation, said whether it is national elections or municipality polls, minorities are made political victims. “They are being attacked and their houses and temples burnt. They will be safe only if separate elections are arranged for them,” he said.
