More left for India

Our Correspondents, Kurigram and Panchagarh

In the second phase of relocation of erstwhile Indian enclave dwellers in Bangladesh to India, 310 people left for the neighbouring country yesterday.
Of them, 158 were from two enclaves in Kurigram district, while 152 were from Dhahola Khakrabari in Panchagarh district.
Of the former 158, there were members of 29 families of Dashiarsara enclave of Phulbari upazila, while one person was a resident of Soto-Garoljhar enclave of Bhurungamari upazila.
The 29 families started for the Bagvandar-Shahebganj border check post in Bhurungamari upazila on five mini-buses and 24 pick-up vans at 10am. On the way, the Soto-Garoljhar resident was picked up.
The 152 residents of Dhahola Khakrabari started for India at 9.30am yesterday. Of them, 63 were men, 49 women, and 40 children, including two new-borns.
Sources said 230 people of 45 families living in three former Indian enclaves have left for India in the two phases while 305 had originally applied for Indiancitizenship during the Indo-Bangla joint survey done from July 6–16.
It was learnt that the West Bengal government has built houses for 49 families in the Votbari agriculture farm area of Mekhliganj in Cooch Behar district. Tin-shed houses were built for enclave people where they will live for a certain period. According to a source, they will be provided with dry food, milk, eggs, medical facilities and ration cards.
