Drug traders attack mobile court

Drug traders of Hazari Lane of Chittagong city assaulted the two members of a mobile court when the court went there to conduct a drive. The court also seized government medicines, physician samples and date expired medicines yesterday. The Chittagong District Administration mobile court led by Executive Magistrate Ruhul Amin came under attack at around 12pm when the mobile court fined two drugstores- Desh Medico and G1 with Tk 10,000 in total and seized huge physician samples, government medicines, date expired medicines.
The name of the injured two Ansar men could not be known. During the drive several hundred drug traders all of a sudden started hurling brickbats targeting the mobile court as they were continuing drive, said Ruhul Amin, executive magistrate of Chittagong District Administration.
A chase and counter-chase took place between the traders and the Ansar members of the mobile court. On information, a team of the police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control after charging baton. Police also arrested 10 people from the spot over the incident.
Demanding the release of the detainees the drug traders at Hazari Lane closed down shutters and threatened to enforce non-stop strike. Meanwhile, the wholesale drug traders of the city’s Hazari Lane have closed their shutters and suspended selling medicines from Tuesday afternoon protesting at the detain of their fellow traders. The drug traders also threatened to enforce a non-stop strike across Chittagong from today (Wednesday) if the detained drug traders are not released by the time.  “On information we rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. We detained 10 people on charge of attacking a mobile court,” Md Jashim Uddin, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kotowali Police Station.
