137 meritorious students get scholarships

BSS, Rajshahi

A total of 137 students, who have attained good results in SSC and HSC examinations this year, were given scholarship here on Wednesday. ASA, an NGO, arranged the scholarship distribution programme in a residential hotel in the city. Each of the students will be given Tk 11,000 under the scholarship this year. Principal of Rajshahi College Prof Habibur Rahman attended and addressed the programme as chief guest while Deputy Director of Local Government Division Parvej Raihan, Assistant Commissioner Rifat Ara and District Education Officer Nasir Uddin spoke as special guests with ASA Divisional Manager Sazzad Haider in the chair.

IU ‘D’ unit admission test results published

The result of ‘D’ unit admission tests for the first year honours courses of Islamic University in Kushtia under session 2019-20 was published on Monday. The Unit coordinator Professor Dr SM Mostafa Kamal handed over the results sheets to IU vice-chancellor Professor M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari at this evening at his office of administrative building on the campus. A total of 3,877 students obtained the pass marks in the examination.  Around 19,613 admission seekers sat for the test held on November 6 against 550 seats. For more information, aspirants are asked to visit the IU website www.iu.ac.bd for their results.

‘Govt wants to deliver standard edn from the root’

BSS, Dhaka

State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Md Zakir Hossain on Wednesday said that the government wants to deliver standard education from the root as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is very much sincere and concerned about education. “The students (primary level) will be the best architect for nation building,” he said. The State Minister was addressing a press briefing at the Aganagar Union Parishad Conference Room after visiting the Primary Education Completion (PEC) exams centre of PM Pilot School and College and Ambagicha Government Primary School at Keraniganj. Terming the PEC exams as the biggest exams of the country, Zakir also urged the guardians of the buddy students not to put extra pressure on their children to gain GPA 5 or resorting to coaching.
