Prepare autopsy reports in clear handwriting

High Court orders physicians
Staff Reporter, Dhaka

The High Court (HC) yesterday directed the doctors concerned to fill-up post-mortem reports on killing cases with clear hand-writing and add a typed-copy so that it could be read easily. It also directed the health secretary and the director general of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) to issue a circular in this regard so that all concerned doctors across the country could know about the HC order.

A HC bench comprising Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice AKM Zahirul Huq came up with the orders while hearing a bail petition filed by accused Md Arif in connection with the Md. Saiful Islam murder case in Cox’s Bazar. After examining all relevant documents, the HC bench granted six months’ ad-interim bail to Arif in the case. Court sources said that the HC bench came up with the directives as the post-mortem reports on the killing case were not clear.

According to the case statement, Khurus Khul High School student Saiful Islam hailing from Cox’s Bazar was killed on February 20, 2017. Medical Officer of Cox’s Bazar District Hospital Dr Sultan Ahmed Shiraji later issued an autopsy report on Saiful’s killing. But the reports were found to be unclear. Advocate Das Tapon Kumar appeared for the petitioner while Deputy Attorney General Sarwar Hosen Bappi represented the state.
