UNB, Sherpur

Two Bangladeshi young men were reportedly shot dead by members of the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) in Panbari bordering area of Sreebardi upazila early Monday. The deceased were identified as Ukil Mia, 19, son of Banga Suruj of Meghadol village, and Khokon Mia, 22, son of Azizul Member of Matifata vilalge in the upazila. Subedar of Karnajhora Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) camp Khandakar Abdul Hai said Ukil, Khokon and Sumon went to the border area in the morning. When they entered the Indian territory around 5am, the BSF troops opened fire -- leaving them injured. Later, they ran into Bangladeshi territory and fell down in Panbari area. Ukil and Khokon later succumbed to their injuries. Hai said they recovered the body of Ukil in the morning and Khokon’s in the afternoon and handed them over to police. Sumon was admitted to Sreebardi Upazila Hospital. Later, a meeting was held with the BGB and BSF near the main pillar 1093 in Indian territory where the BGB protested the incident. Officer-in-charge of Sreebardi Police Station Ruhul Amin Talukdar said police sent the bodies to the local hospital morgue for autopsy.
