Three shot dead in Rangamati

STAFF REPORTER, Dhaka

Three people were shot dead in a gunfight allegedly between two factions of Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samiti (JSS) in Rajsthali area of Rangamati district yesterday. Confirming the incident, Police Superintendent (SP) of Rangamati District, Alamgir Kabir, told The Independent that three persons were shot dead. “A security team has been sent to the spot. We have also sent a team from the local police station to the place of occurrence. As the location is deep inside the hills, our team is yet to confirm the identity of the deceased,” the SP said. “We have initially learned that the deceased were members of the JSS,” he added. According to sources, an armed clash broke out between two factions of PCJSS in Rajsthali’s Barmuda Marma area yesterday evening. After the firefight ended, three bullet-hit bodies were discovered by the locals. Local sources also said all the deceased were members of the JSS (Santu Larma) faction.
