Dhaka keep faith in old-campaigners

Cumilla, Rangpur satisfied with their teams
SPORTS REPORTER, Dhaka
Dhaka keep faith in old-campaigners

Jamuna Bank Dhaka Platoon formed their team with the mingle of experienced local and foreign globe-trotting players by whom they can logically dream to triumph the special edition of the Bangabandhu-Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

“All we know them, who have played so many T20 games at home and abroad that they know well how many types of games that could be. They have ability to bright them out from any circumstance what they have proved on many occasions. So, Dhaka Platoon can spin on them,” said Dhaka coach Mohammed Salahuddin.

“We can take Mashrafe’s words first. At the beginning of the players’ draft, all the teams didn’t show any interest to pick him. But the BPL franchisees won four trophies under his captaincy. Mashrafe is now in Dhaka Platoon,” Salahuddin added.

He further said that many can say that Mashrafe almost bid farewell to cricket. He is far from cricket in the aftermath of ICC World Cup. So, it’ll go in vain to hope over him. It’s really tough to take any final decision about Mashrafe. He is such a character whose morale is always exemplary. Despite having undergone operation eight times, he still carries on his career for the last eight-nine years.

“Under his visionary leadership, Bangladesh cricket goes to a new height. He can be returned to his form with the BPL. It might be a stage of regaining his from,” Salahuddin hopes.

The other player is Tamim Iqbal. Commilla Victorians tasted their second time BPL crown riding on his marauding batting performance. Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi and Sri Lanka all-rounder Thisara Perera are the same mould of players, who trotted across the world to play T20 cricket. They can swap the fate of the match within the moment.

Dhaka Platoon head coach Mohammad Salahuddin is dreaming to do something surprising as they are in the team. Two-time BPL title winning coach informed that they had eyes on experienced players in the BPL Players’ Draft.

As per their expectation, they roped in Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, Tamim Iqbal coupled with Shahid Afridi, Thisara Perera and Wahab Riaz like experienced players.

“It is being deemed that the team has been balanced so far,” said Mohamamd Salahuddin.

“Actually Twenty20 cricket is a game of the experienced players. I believe this because the decision is to take in every delivery. Those who are experienced can take quick decision. They will play in the field, I’m not. So it will be advantageous for me the more we have big headed players in the field. The others of my team will learn it,” Mohammad Salahuddin told The Independent.

But they did not decide who will captain the team despite having so many experienced players in the team. They will take the decision quickly after consulting with the team’s concerned authorities.

“We are yet to make any decision who will be our captain. This is our official team. We have to sit with the concerned authorities first and then settled the matter of the team’s captaincy,” Salahuddin told.

While Dhaka Platoons roped in two local A+ players-Tamim Iqbal and Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, Salahuddin said, Platoons didn’t break any law when they called Mashrafe at the eleventh hour.

“I roped in Mashrafe without violating any law. The rule is if an A+ category player remains unsold, he can be called. For this stance, the team has to pay extra required amount of money to the Board,” he said.

On the other hand, Cumilla Warriors and Rangpur Rangers expressed their satisfaction over the teams they have formed for the upcoming special edition of the Bangabandhu-Bangladesh Premier League (BPL)-2019.

The Warriors formed their teams by the players likes of Soumya Sarkar, Al Amin Hossain, Yasir Ali Chowdhury Rabbi, Sabbir Rahman, Sunzamul islam, Abu Haider Rony and Mahidul Islam Ankon. They roped in the services of Sri Lanka’s Kusal perera, Afghanistan’s Mujeeb Ur Rahman and England’s Dawid Malan.

“Draft is not always done in own will. Even if our first option is not done, we have tried to keep the combination in right shape through our second and third options. We have all decided it together with our adviser and coach,” said Naimur Rahman Durjoy, team director of Cumilla Warriors.

“We are all satisfied with the team what we have formed for the Bangabandhu-BPL. It will not be bad,” Durjoy said.

However, Rangpur Rangers also formed a team with the blend of experience and youngster players. There are Mustafizur Rahman, Mohammad Naim Sheikh, Arafat Sunny, Jahurul Islam Omi, Taskin Ahmed, Zakir Hasan, Fazle Mahmud Rabbi, Nadif Chowdhury and Sanjit Saha Deep in the team. Along with them, Mohamamd Nabi, Shai Hope and Cameron Delport like T20 specialist cricketers are in the side.

“Draft is not always up to the mark. Then, the team we formed has been good enough, by the grace of Allah. What I believe is that the performance in the field is important,” said Akram Khan, team director of Rangpur Rangers.

“Sometimes it is seen that a team can’t perform despite having roped in big star players. If the execution in the field is good and if players try to deliver their best, the team will then do well,” Akram concluded.
