Missing student found dead

UNB, Faridpur  

The body of a missing student of Faridpur Medical College Hospital (FMCH) was recovered from Munsibazar area here on Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Nayan Chandra Nath, son of late Dilip Chandra Nath of Azimpur village under Daganbhuiyan upazila in Feni. He was appearing in his professional medical exam at the end of his fifth year education at FMCH.

Enayet Hossain, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Faridpur Kotwali Police Station, said they recovered the body from the area around 7:30am. The body was sent for autopsy, OC added.

Nayan's classmates said he had been missing since Thursday. He went out of the residential hall about an hour before the fourth examination and been missing since then.

Md Wakif Ul Alam, a friend of Nayan, said he was mentally disturbed for the last few days after learning that he cannot become a surgeon because of some complications in his fingers.

FMCH Principal Prof Khabirul Islam told UNB that they filed a general diary with police after learning that Nayan had gone missing.

‘Negligence led to pregnant woman’s death in Jashore’

UNB, Jashore  

Police arrested a doctor after he conducted a C-section at a private clinic leading to the death of a pregnant woman in the town on early Friday.

The arrestee was Paritosh Kumar Kundu, a doctor of Bandhan Clinic on Jail Road in the town.

The deceased woman was identified as Moyna Khatun, 25, wife of grocery shop owner Ismail Hossain of Khoyertala area in Sadar upazila. Ismail told UNB that he filed a complaint with Kotwali Model Police Station after his wife died during the cesarean operation. Their daughter survived.

He said the hospital authorities told them that there was no other way to save the mother and child without a C-section. "They hid the news of my wife's death during operation and told us to take her to Khulna on an emergency basis around 1:30am," Ismail added.

Elderly woman electrocuted

OUR CORRESPONDENT, Chandpur

An elderly woman died of electrocution at Muktirkandi village in Matlab Uttar  upazila under Chandpur district on Friday afternoon.  

The deceased was identified as Ferdousi Begum,65,  wife of Md Shafiqul Islam of Muktirkandi village under Sadullahpur union of the upazila.

OC of Matlab Uttar police station Nasiruddin Mridha, said while she was doing household chores in the afternoon, she came into contact with live wire. Hearing her shouts neighbours switched off the electric line and took her to local health complex where duty doctor declared her dead.
