NCL sixth and final round from today

Khulna need a draw to seal top spot
Sports Reporter, Dhaka

The National Cricket League (NCL) for the 2019-2020 season will resume with the deciding round after a three-day break at four different venues across the country today. Sponsored by Walton, the 21st edition of the league will end with the sixth-round fixture, which will produce winners in both Tiers. Khulna Division will square off Dhaka Division at the Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium (SANS) in Khulna, Rangpur Division will take on Rajshahi Division at the Shaheed Kamruzzaman Stadium (SKS) in Rajshahi in the Tier-1 matches.

On the other hand, Sylhet Division will lock horns with Chattogram Division at the Shaheed Chandu Stadium (SCS) in Bogura and Dhaka Metro will face off Barishal Division at the Barishal Divisional Stadium (BDS) in Barishal in Tier-2 matches. In the aftermath of the fifth-round outings, Khulna Division led the points-table of the top Tier, posting the highest 29.96 points, almost six points more than second-placed Dhaka Division, who chalked up 24.1 points.

Khulna won so far two matches against Rajshahi Division by seven wickets and Rangpur Division by one wicket whilst Dhaka claimed one match win against Rajshahi by an innings and four runs, out of five. But they have an identical similarity that they did not concede any loss en route to their running journey in this year’s league. If Khulna can win the sixth and last round encounter or even draw the match, they will be winners of the 21st edition of the NCL.

Rajshahi Division placed third with 17.11 Points.  They thrashed Rangpur by six runs to register their league lone win so far. Rangpur, who are yet to triumph any match, remained at rock bottom of the top Tier, scoring just 11.2 points on the board.   they fail to win the sixth and last round game, they will be demoted to Tier-2

In Tier-2, Sylhet Division are in the pole position with 26.55 points. They won two matches and as many losses, having a good chance of promoting to the top-Tier. They will go through if they can at least draw the tie.

However, Dhaka Metro placed second with 21.91 points. They have won and lost one match each. If they want to book a Tier-1 berth, they have to win this round of game. Chattogram Division closely followed them with 19.42 points. Unlike Metro, they also won and lost one match apiece.

In fine, Barishal Division is languishing at the bottom of the chart in the Tier-2. They managed to pull off 1.62 points, around two points less than Chattogram. They have no chance of promoting to the Tier-1 from Tier-2.
