‘Dhaka Int’l Folk Festival 2019’ kicks off

‘Dhaka Int’l Folk Festival 2019’ kicks off

The fifth edition of the three-day grand folk music event titled ‘Dhaka International Folk Festival’ kicked off at the Bangladesh Army Stadium in the capital yesterday evening. Dedicating to late music maestros of the country, Subir Nandi, Bari Siddiqui, Shahnaz Rahmatullah, Ahmed Imtiaz Bulbul, Fakir Abdur Rob Shah and Ayub Bachchu, the fifth edition of the festival opened with a dance by Prema and Bhabna Nrityadal.

Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud inaugurated ‘Dhaka International Folk Fest 2019’, while Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen was present as chief guest in the opening ceremony.

Among others, State Minister for Cultural Affairs KM Khalid and founder chairman of Dhaka Bank Limited Abdul Hai Sarker were also present at the event.

In his welcome speech, Anjan Chowdhury, Chairman of Sun Foundation and Sun Communications Limited, said, “Folk music is the music of our soul. We want to spread this music across the globe. We are now very delighted that the people from all over the world are getting introduced with our festival.”

He, on behalf of Sun Foundation, also thanked everyone involved with the festival and expressed his gratitude to the audience.

The line-up of artistes for the opening day included Prema & Bhabna Nrityadal (Bangladesh), Chveneburebi (Georgia), Shah Alam Sarkar (Bangladesh) and Daler Mehndi (India).  

Initiated by Sun Foundation, ‘Dhaka International Folk Fest 2019’ has been organised by Sun Communications Ltd. Powered by Dhaka Bank Limited, the title sponsor of the festival is Meril.

This year, more than 200 artistes from six countries, including Bangladesh, are scheduled to share the same stage to celebrate the music of the hearts during the three-day festival, every day from 6pm to 12midnight.
