Patients suffer as X-ray machine inoperative in Narsingdi Hospital

OUR CORRESPONDENT, Narsingdi

The X-ray machine at the Narsdingdi Sadar Hospital has remained inoperative for the last 15 days, depriving patients of X- ray test facilities.

Every day, several hundred poor people from remote areas come to the hospital for treatment and doctors advise various X-ray tests. But patients return without the tests being done.

This correspondent went to the Narsingdi sadar hospital with his son yesterday (Thursday) for a chest X ray as advised by the doctor. But the X-ray technician said the facility had remained suspended for the last 15 days in the absence of a consultant radiologist.

Several other patients from Narsingdi sadar and Raipura upazilas were also unable to get X-rays done. When asked, the civil surgeon of Narsingdi, Dr Helal uddin, said, “We have written to the higher authorities to send mechanics to repair the X-ray machines.”

Sadar hospital officials said that the former superintendent (civil surgeon) of the hospital had contacted the director general (DG) of health with a request for sending X-ray mechanics and sanctioning the post of a radiologist.

Other doctors at the hospital said many of the hundreds of patients coming to the hospital from remote areas were being deprived of X-ray facilities.

The civil surgeon told this correspondent that the hospital’s radiologist had been transferred to another hospital a long time ago. The higher authorities are yet not fill that post. Doctors said they were finding it difficult to treat patients in the absence of X-ray reports.
