Eid-e-Miladunnabi observed at DU

BSS, Dhaka

The holy Eid-e-Miladunnabi (SM) marking the anniversary of birth and demise of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (SM) was observed on Sunday with due religious solemnity at Dhaka University (DU).

On this occasion a discussion meeting, doa and milad mahfil were held at the Central Mosque of the university, said a DU press release.

DU vice-chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman, DU pro-VC (Administration) Prof Dr Muhammad Samad, Treasurer Prof Dr Md Kamal Uddin, Professor of Islamic Studies Department Dr Abdur Rashid, chairman of Arabic Department Prof Dr Mohammad Yousuf and Imam Khatib of the DU Central Mosque Dr Syed Muhammad Emdad Uddin all spoke on the occasion.

Sports fund set up at DU after journalist Mamun

BSS, Dhaka

A new sports fund was set up today at Mass Communication and Journalism (MCJ) Department of Dhaka Universality after the name of the department’s former student and late journalist Mamunur Rashid.

Deputy Managing Director of Abul Khair Group Abu Syed Chowdhury Bablu handed over a cheque for Tk 10 lakh to MCJ Department Chairperson Dr Kaberi Gayen at her office at the department. Earlier, an agreement was signed in this regard.

With the income of the fund, sports equipments will be bought for students of the department every year and other accessories will be done.

Apart from teachers of the department, Prime Minister’s Deputy Press Secretary Ashraful Alam Khokan, journalist Mamun’s well-wishers Kazi Nasim Al Momin Rupok, Joydeb Nandi, Mostak Ahmed, Rokon Uddin and Najmul Hossain were present on the occasion, among others,. Dr Kaberi Gayen expressed gratitude to Ashraful Alam Khokan for his role in setting up the sports fund. Born at Lohagora under Narail district, Mamunur Rashid, who was a former student of DU MCJ Department and a journalist of Ekushey Television, died of a cardiac arrest on September 3 in 2018. During his career, he covered Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). He also worked at Asian TV and Bangla Vision.

BRUR admission tests deferred due to cyclone

BSS, Rangpur

Admission tests for first year (honours), BSc (Engineering) and BBA programs for the 2019-20 academic sessions has been deferred by a day due to the super cyclone ‘Bulbul’ at Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR).

“The central admission test committee of university took the decision in its seventh meeting held at administrative building with vice-chancellor Professor Dr Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah in the chair,” a press release said on Sunday.

As per the rescheduled routine, admission tests for students of other groups of B, C, D and F Units will be held on November 12, 13 and 14 next in place of November 11, 12 and 13 keeping a gap on November 11 due the super cyclone ‘Bulbul.’
