Woman stabbed dead by youth in Cumilla
UNB, Cumilla

A woman was stabbed to dead by a youth in Hatigara area of Sadar upazila while the body of a girl was recovered in Debidwar upazila in Cumilla yesterday. The deceased woman was identified as Shanu Begum while identity of the girl could not be known. Md Anwarul Haque, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station, said as Shanu Begum scolded Delwar Hossain, son of her neighbour Abdur Rahman, for entering her house abruptly he got furious and stabbed her with a sharp weapon, leaving her injured. Locals took Shanu to Cumilla Medical College Hospital where doctors declared her dead. Locals also caught Delwar and handed him over to police.


Trader jailed after arrest with phensidyl in Khulna
UNB, Khulna

A mobile court in Khulna sentenced a jewelry trader to three-day imprisonment after he was arrested with one and a half bottles of phensidyl in Helatala area of the city on Monday night. Prokash Kumar Saha alias Bappi Saha, 35, owner of Anima Jewelers of the city, was also fined Tk 12,000 by the mobile court led by executive magistrate Md Imran Khan. Aslam Bahar Bulbul, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, said on secret information, law enforcers conducted a drive in Anima Jewelry around 10:30 pm and arrested Prokash.


Probe committee formed over Star Jute Mill fire
UNB, Khulna

A five-member probe body was formed to investigate the fire incident at state-owned Star Jute Mill in Chandani Mahal area in Dighalia upazila on Monday night. Md Roich Uddin Ahmed, General Manager of the mill, said a five-member committee led by Manager (Technical) Shuvenru Kumar, was formed to investigate the incident. The fire broke out at the waste thread pile of No. 1 mill at 7:55 pm. Later three units of Fire Service doused it after two hours of frantic efforts. Dighalia Upazila Chairman Sheikh Maruful Islam and Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Hafiz Al Asad visited the spot after the incident.


V-Day celebration programmes
BSS, Rangpur

The district administration at a preparatory meeting has chalked out programs to celebrate the Victory Day 2019 on December 16 with paying rich tributes to the martyred sons and daughters of the soil.
Deputy Commissioner Md Asib Ahsan presided over the preparatory meeting held at his conference room in the city on Monday afternoon. Leaders of different political parties, heads of government departments and educational institutions, sociocultural, professional, business, human rights and other organisations, NGOs, journalists and civil society members were present.


450 illegal structures demolished
BSS, Khulna

The ongoing eviction drive on both banks of the River Mayur and 26 canals, the economic life line of Khulna, continued for the sixty six consecutive day yesterday. The district administration has been conducting the drive in collaboration with Khulna City Corporation (KCC), Khulna Development Authority (KDA), Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) and Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP).
