BPL players’ draft likely to hold third week of Nov

‘Bangabandhu BPL’ to be opened with grand opening ceremony
SPORTS REPORTER, Dhaka

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has drawn up their plan to arrange the upcoming edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) in a different manner without franchisees what they earlier announced.

The BCB itself will organise and discharge the complete management of the teams of the ensuing edition of the Twenty20 Cricket Tournament which has already been named after the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman) “Bangabandhu-BPL”.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to inaugurate the special edition of the Bangabandhu-BPL. BPL Governing Council member secretary and BCB director IH Mallick confirmed the news to media.

It was scheduled to start the upcoming BPL on December 6 following a gala opening ceremony on December 3. But for many reasons, BPL might be delayed for five-six days. In that case, the opening ceremony may be held on December 8. And BPL may be begun on December 11 or 12.

The board has decided that they would be run this special BPL without the franchisees. BCB will form the teams and play the role of the complete management of the BPL. But the board will appoint a board director to conduct the team. Beside them, there will be team’s sponsor partners.

The coaches for the BPL team have not been fixed yet. The BCB finalized four sponsor partners and the rest of three are yet to announce but it will soon be finalised as the member secretary informed.

It is learnt from the BCB sources that all the arrangements by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) are going on at a snail’s space. But there will be no dearth of grandeur and éclat of BPL as the Prime Minister will be inaugurated the BPL.

Even though there have not enough time for BPL, the works of the BPL have not halted. BPL governing council planned to arrange the BPL Players’ Draft on November 12. But there is a concern, could they arrange it in due time? The speculation is rife abound the BCB and some media aired that the players draft might be delayed for further three more days. In that case, the players draft may be held on November 15.

“BPL players’ draft will be delayed. But I can’t tell you at this moment that it will be held on November 15 or delay further,” Mallick said.

There is a logical reason not to tell the exact date of the BPL players’ draft by BPL member secretary because the first Test between Bangladesh and India will be held on November 14. And so, there is a concern that players draft will be held during the Test.
